The House on the Prairie Books

“Remember me with smiles and laughter, for that is how I will remember you all. If you can only remember me with tears, then don’t remember me at all.” Laura Ingalls Wilder

“The Little House on the Prairie” books provide us with a real life experience to pioneer life either by reading Laura Ingalls Wilder’s series of books or by watching the popular television series “The Little House on the Prairie” that aired from September 11, 1974 to May 10, 1982.

At 60 years old, Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote her first book, Little House in the Big Woods, which she wrote to keep alive her happy childhood stories about she and her sister’s life on the frontier, in the woods, and in the Indian Territory of the Great Plains. Her stories made the frontier towns, the coming of the railroad, and homesteading on the prairie come alive for generations to read and for ages to come.
