homeland. It’s the nostalgic one that the world sings to welcome the New Year. We have the Scots to thank for the creation of the beloved New Year’s song Auld Lang. In 1788, Robert Burns wrote the poem from an ancient song which he was the first to record it on paper.
The phrase ‘auld lang syne’ roughly translates as ‘for old times’ sake,’ and the song is all about preserving old friendships and looking back over the events of the year.
